What the Mets did right

No, not a David Wright reference. Believe it or not, Angel Pagan is leading the majors in Win Shares as a centerfielder, .01 ahead of Andres Torres and not that far behind Wright at third base. (The top-ranked Phillie, Roy Halladay, is first among pitchers in Win Shares and 13th overall.)

Despite beginning the year on the Mets’ bench (the Mets being the Mets, Little Sarge was the opening day starter before being released in June after “hitting” .190/.266/.241 in 58 AB), Pagan now has career highs in both the stats they show on Phillies broadcasts (.311, 9 HR, 47 RBI) and the ones they don’t (.372 OBP, .478 SLG, 37 BB, 128 OPS+). Basically, Pagan has been well worth Corey Coles and Ryan Meyers.

So 54-53? It beats 70-92, but too bad the Mets don’t have more Pagans. (We want them to beat the Braves tonight, don’t we?)
